Best way to send out mass texts using your Android phone

There are many Android apps that let you send out mass texts (even the default message app lets you do that). The problem is when you want to send out a mass text repeatedly to the same group of people or when you want to send out a text for a recurring event.

There is a new app that does just this. The app is called Mass Text (download at the Google Play store). The nice thing about this app is that you can create groups of contacts and templates with variables.

Use Gmail as a GTD tool (Getting Things Done and using Gmail more productively)

Most of us have probably used email more than a handful of times to remind ourselves to do something, or as a shopping list of sorts. I recently discovered a way to help me be more organized with my emails and tasks using Gmail. It is quick and easy to do.

I will show you how to get important emails and tasks at the top of Gmail, so you will always see (and never forget) the most pressing things in your inbox.

One of the many reasons I love Google

This is a picture of my bathroom here in China. Nothing special really (other than the fact that I moved into a really nasty apartment with a nasty bathroom). Nothing special I thought.
This is why Google is so cool.

I recently upgraded Picasa to the newest version. I decided to go through and use Picasa to organize some of my contacts with faces. It was when I was doing this that Picasa brought up this photo for me to tag. My initial response was that Picasa was crazy, but after looking at the smaller thumbnail, I realized it totally does look like a face.

I love you Google.

Google+ vs Facebook - Who will win?

Google+ is Google's latest attempt to take some of the social network from Facebook.

Now that I have Google+ I thought it would be interesting to do a short little comparison. It is fairly obvious that Google is trying their hand at social networking and hoping to dive into Facebook's market. It will be interesting to see if that can actually happen.

As an evaluation, I decided to list the features that people use on Facebook and compare them to Google+

My first paycheck from Google! - A look into making money with your blog.

Yay! My first paycheck from Google! Enough money for.... something I guess.

Yes. It is possible to make money with your blog. I have always dreamed of working for Google. Even though that probably will never happen, I now can at least pretend it is happening, because Google sent me a paycheck! Just under $120. Woot!

Chrome OS - My thoughts on the CR-48 after a month of use

So I have been using the Google Chrome OS Cr-48 for about a month now. Here are some of my thoughts:

This computer has been great as a backup computer. I have my laptop basically stationary as a desktop with a mouse and external hard drive plugged in. When I need a mobile computer, I would much rather take the CR-48. I don't even need to worry about the power cord since the battery power is so good. It is small and portable. I enjoy the keyboard and it is a fun computer to use and showoff.

That is about all the good I have to say.

Unfortunately, the CR-48 is still pretty buggy. As a concept it is decent but lacking. As a computer it is almost painful to use at times. For only running one thing (a browser) is can be slow. Video streaming is laggy (especially on hulu.com). Wireless connectivity is weak and unreliable.

Here is a quick pro/con list:

Tip of The Day - Your Best Options for File Sharing, Backup and Online Storage

Today I just signed up for another online file storage website. http://uploadingit.com. I tend to sign up for as many different file storage websites just in case they end up being good. Most are not that great, but some are. So far I think Uploadingit.com might be one of the good ones.

Everyone has files that they consider to be important (in many cases, priceless), but most people don't do anything to ensure the safety and protection of these files. I am not going to discuss why you should do this (it should be obvious) but I will talk about some free options available to you.

I will go over some of my favorite online storage websites and discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of each. Each of the sites I talk about are going to offer free services (yep; I am cheap that way).

Getting Familiar with Chrome OS - Google's CR-48

Chrome OS running on CR-48

Here is an in depth review of Chrome OS on the Google CR-48 computer. The Chrome OS is a new concept for the computing world so rather than just giving it a grade comparing it to other existing computers, or operating systems, I am going to talk about the most common tasks done while on the computer and write about how well Chrome OS performs for these tasks.

Why I switched from Firefox to Google Chrome (And why I think you should give it a try)

VS

About a month ago I made the switch official. I now use Google chrome as my default browser. I remember it as being a bitter sweet day for me. I should say that I love Firefox. I have used Firefox before most people had even heard of it. I was using it back in the day when it was still Firebird. Firefox has always been good to me. So why the switch then? Let me tell you why I switched, and why I think you should give it a try.

The Best Way to Download Free Textures for your Designs

Anyone getting into graphic design will eventually start using different textures. I want to feature a few of my favorite places to find some free textures.

Textureking.com

Texture King has a large database of textures. The website is easy to navigate and downloading is super simple.

Image Abstraction also has a great database of textures and is well organized. I found downloading to be a bit easier on Texture King, but it is still easy to download at Image Abstraction.

Texturespot.com/

Texture Spot's database is not as large, but still worth taking a look.

Google.com

This is my favorite place to find textures from my favorite web company. Google image searches always helps you get what you are looking for.

Go a Google search for the texture you want, click the Images link above the search results and when the results come up, press the "Large" link for image size to make sure you are getting the best possible textures.

Disclaimer:
Whenever you download textures, make sure you read the terms and conditions from whatever website you are downloading them from.

Geeky News - Bing copies Google. Just one more reason why I use Google

If you want to do a search for something online, you google it. You don't bing it. That just sounds bad (and perhaps inappropriate). Google has been the search engine giant for over the past decade. Other search engines have been trying to play catch up, and some have done relatively well. Microsoft announced bing.com not too long ago, and it has been doing quite well. Not well enough though for bing to succeed without piggybacking off Google.

Google had been suspecting bing of copying their search engine results, so they set up a trap to see whether or not they were right. They were.

By setting up specific results for some gibberish text, they were able to find that bing yielded the same results.  The text "mbzrxpgjys" normally would not bring up any results, but Google set it up so that it would. Then all of a sudden, it started showing up in bing as well.

Interesting. I think I will keep using Google.

Tip of the Day - Backing up Important Documents

For a few years, I worked in a computer lab giving technical support. The saddest thing I would see is when students would spend hours and hours on a document and have it all lost because they reset the computer or there was a power outage.  There is a simple solution to making sure you never loose a document: Use Google Docs.  Google docs will save your document every 5 minutes. You can access it anywhere you get the Internet, and it is stored on a very secure server.

People may argue that Google Docs does not allow you to do what Microsoft Word does. This is true.  Usually, I will type my document in Google Docs, then print it or change the formatting in Word; but at least this way I know I have it backed up.

If you still don't want to use Google Docs, please please please, save your document as soon as you start one, and save frequently.  If you have a power outage, or your computer resets for some reason, if Word's auto recovery does not work, you can always try file recovery software like Recuva.

How to make money from your blog

I think there are a few types of bloggers.
  1. Those who blog because there are passionate about something, or want to share something with others.
  2. Those who blog just to make money.
  3. A combination of the previous two bloggers.
If you are reading this, you are probably the third type of blogger. You probably already have a blog and have begun wondering if you can make money on your blog or not. This post will talk about why you should or shouldn't try to make money on your blog and what you can expect in your attempt.
